Curriculum Rationale
|
We believe that parents are vital to a child’s education. It is a great privilege for a child when he or she receives a quality education, in a home setting, with loving, supportive, and familiar adult(s).
CHEK first of all is a Christian program dedicated to Christian education and designed to assist Christian families to achieve their educational goals for their family. This, however, is not what makes CHEK unique because there are other home based educational organizations which do the same thing. What makes CHEK unique is that it adapts its educational approach to the way in which the family wants to pursue education for their children. Ever since CHEK began offering DL (Distributed Learning) education at home, when the Province of BC first began to offer DL, it has emphasized Family Design in which parent’s choose their own curriculum and design the way education will be delivered to their children at the Kindergarten to grade nine level. Parents reach the outcomes in the way that seems best to them and the teacher is there to recognize the outcomes in the parent’s program.
In adapting the DL program to families CHEK offers the largest number of choices. Among the choices are:
- the paper based model in which the student works from an educational program designed by the family (Family Design),
- a fully prepared program model in which the student progresses at his or her own pace and requires minimal work by the parent,
- a completely prepared online model emphasizing high academic achievement beginning at the Kindergarten level, and
- a CHEK prepared Schooling at Home Manual option which provides guidance on curriculum choice and is a step by step outline of how to do schooling at home. It is ideal for those who are engaging in schooling at home for the first time.
CHEK has a program that will fit the educational philosophy of almost all families.
