The newsletters are sent directly to families' homes. Check it out!
April was a busy month as administration travelled to the different regions to meet families, participate in group activities, and host informational sessions. These sessions were beneficial for currently enrolled families as well as families who expressed interest in learning more about CHEK as a potential school for them. These sessions have been informative for all in attendance, and have certainly raised awareness in each community. There have been ads in local newspapers as well as a radio ad! People are becoming more interested in CHEK as a strong option for their homeschooling students.
CHEK was represented at the Kelowna CHEC Conference on April 30. Dawn, Linda, and Colleen, in the picture above, with our new CHEK banners, were able to meet a lot of visitors who stopped by our booth. CHEK families who attended learned a lot, being exposed to great teaching and a plethora of curriculum choices.
Government exam results will be available the first week of March. Students can check their results on the student secure web site at www.bced.gov.bc.ca/exams/. The student's nine digit PEN number is required. Also available at this link is the PSI (Post-Secondary Institution) Choices Form. This form assists students applying to Post Secondary institutions. The Ministry sends a copy of their transcript to the schools they have indicated on the form once graduation status is confirmed in July.
Grade 10-12 Report Cards - Second Semester Mid-term report cards for Grade 10 - 12 students will be mailed to families on Friday April 9.
Science Fair Award Winner!

Ayla Wiggins, a grade 2 CHEK student from Elkford, recently placed in the top 5 in the primary science fair at Elkford Rocky Mountain Elementary School. She and her partner created a cross section of an erupting volcano, complete with display board. Congratulations are in order for this budding young scientist!
Grand Forks Geography Fair
"On February 12, 2010, CHEK Grand Forks held its first Geography Fair at Selkirk College. Students chose specific areas or regions, researched them and shared their newly acquired knowledge through display boards, innovative posters, crafts and relevant items. Attendees to our fair were encouraged to roam from country to country asking questions, finding answers and receiving a stamp for their passport, given to each person upon entry to the Fair. Travels included the Netherlands, Canada (Northwest Territories), Italy, Switzerland, Madagascar, Africa and Mexico. Each group then shared a short oral presentation with a question period. What a wonderful way to explore the world, bringing it closer to each of us!"
